Atmore Help Needed
Monday, January 23, 2012
Hello Everyone-
For the 35th year, our club is hosting the Atmore Memorial FIS race, the weekend after next, February 3-5. It is also a meaningful fundraiser for our club that benefits ALL of the kids in our program - racers, freestylers and d-teamers alike.
This the premier race in the Central Division, and the only FIS race that is hosted by a Club rather than the Division. The Atmore has developed a reputation far and wide as one of the best races out there, and it is a huge feather in our cap to be able to host it. Racers will be coming to Spirit literally from across the country - East, West, Rockies - and Canada. They come because of the reputation we have developed over the years for hosting a fabulous event, largely due to the efforts of volunteers within our club. We work very hard to make it an "event" rather than just another race on the calendar.
It is a big enough deal that neither NJRS nor USSA have scheduled races that weekend. The calendar is kept clear for two reasons. One, we need the parents - whether your child is on D-Team, Age, or even Freestyle - what we make on the Atmore reduces all of your team fees. Two, being present at the race and able to watch skiing of this caliber is a phenomenal learning experience for our younger racers.
It also takes a lot of effort to put on, so we need the help of as many athletes and parents as possible to put it on. You don't have to know anything about ski racing, or even be involved in ski racing (ahem, freestylers) to be able to help, but we do need your help. Remember that our program fees are markedly lower than those charged by other clubs (like half or less) in large part because we are able to offset the majority of what it costs us to run this club through our fundraisers - of which the Atmore is one. This only works if people pitch in to help out when needed.
Inside, we need help at check-in and Registration Thursday evening and Friday-Sunday Mornings. We need help selling T-Shirts in the Chalet as well as one or two to help in the race office. Outside, we need folks to deliver box lunches and cocoa/coffee to the workers on the hill. There is a sign up on the Team Room bulletin board, or email Karen Tusa at tusadk@mchsi.com. Athletes that aren't racing can take many of these positions as long as we have some adults to coordinate/supervise.
Thanks,
David Thickens
